Most watches sold today are technology-driven, smartwatches or cheaply made, often large and flashy, mass-produced timepieces. Aside from a handful of niche brands targeting the über wealthy, the watch market has seemingly turned its back on the timeless traditions of simple and elegant designs made to the highest standards of Swiss quality and craftsmanship.
Enter TIDLÖS and the company’s founder, Henry Salmela, who used to work in the world’s deepest iron ore mine in Kiruna, Sweden. It was here, deep under the arctic circle that Henry first dreamt of unique watches, whose designs would not only reflect the timeless perfection of northern Scandinavia’s nature and landscapes, but watches that would also be manufactured to perfection by the craftsmanship of Swiss watchmakers.
A year later, Henry took the first step towards realizing his dream and created his own company. Then, in January 2020, he sought the collaboration of a well-known local Swedish businessman, Dennis Sammelin, who was won over by Henry’s designs, and so became a co-founder.
More recently, the famous entrepreneur and fashion designer, Per Holknekt, co-founder of Odd Molly, also joined the Board of Directors having been impressed by the passion and vision of both Henry and Dennis.
The name TIDLÖS is the Swedish word for ’timeless’, a description that the team at TIDLÖS says captures the essence of their brand perfectly. TIDLÖS has worked diligently to realize designs that reflect the stunning beauty and timelessness of the northern regions of Scandinavia, whilst abiding by the core attributes of Scandinavia design – simplicity, minimalism, and functionalism. These designs are then brought to life by Swiss watchmakers who have passed down their skills over the centuries and whose watches uniquely bear the ’Swiss Made’ brand.
The result is the best of Scandinavian design, influenced by the natural beauty of the arctic circle, produced to the highest Swiss manufacturing standards (hence their unusually long, 6-year warranty), creating unique, truly ’timeless’ watches, unconstrained by technology or mass-market manufacturing.
