Writer Lee L. Woodard II releases three collections of poetry and observations inspired by faith, perseverance, and life as a sea captain

Lee L. Woodard II has released three volumes of deeply personal writing, “Poems of a Bering Sea Captain, Vol. I,” “Poems of a Bering Sea Captain, Vol. II,” both collections of poetry, and “Words, Experiences, and Observations of a Bering Sea Captain,” a selection of true stories and reflections. All three books draw from his experiences as a man of faith and the often-daunting lifestyle of a commercial fishing captain on the treacherous Bering Sea.

Written with unflinching honesty, Woodard’s writing address both the external challenges of captaining a vessel and the internal struggles of seafaring life. These observations, anecdotes, and musings are built upon more than forty years of experience traveling the Pacific as a working fisherman, and the firsthand knowledge is immediately apparent in the writing. These are his debut works, and book four, “The Life of a Bering Sea Fisherman” will follow.

Described by the author as “deep-cutting spiritual poems addressing the deepest human feelings,” the writing contains both heartache and hope, showing vulnerability, feelings of isolation, and troubled reflections on humanity, yet also balanced by a steadfast belief in God, salvation, and the power of prayer. The pieces vary in topic, but remain unified by the author’s consistent voice and poetic rhythm.

Each of these three volumes contains numerous writings that inspire contemplation, faith, and independence. Woodard exposes both his love for adventure and the toll it can take on the adventurer, all while giving readers a window into his personality and worldview.

With candid clarity and short, easily digestible pieces, the poetry and reflections contain something for readers of all backgrounds, from the joy of exploration to the limitless force of faith.

All three books are available through Amazon. Review copies and interviews are available upon request.
